Air Abrasion

Many times, small areas of decay can be treated without anesthesia using air abrasion. An air abrasion system works best on small cavities that will be filled with non-metallic materials. It's generally used to repair early tooth decay before it spreads.

Air abrasion is a fine, gentle spray of aluminum oxide particles that removes decay. So fine and accurate, in fact, that it allows the dentist to target only the decay, leaving healthy tooth structure intact. Because this system can be precisely directed, there's less tooth structure lost when preparing for a filling.

No needles, no drill, no numb mouth - this is pain-free dentistry at its finest!

Is it suitable for all decay?

Unfortunately....no. Deep decay still requires more conventional treatment. Air abrasion is best for early decay and for sealing the pits and fissures on the biting surfaces of teeth. Before sealing, pits and fissures are tested for decay using the DIAGNOdent laser.
