Overcoming Anxiety
Dental anxiety
Do you get nervous just thinking about going to the dentist? You could
be experiencing dental phobia or anxiety. Dental phobia is the serious,
often paralyzing fear of seeking dental care. It is has been reported
that over 50% of the population suffers from this phobia, often to
the detriment of their dental health.
Unfortunately, people who suffer from dental anxiety often fail to visit the dentist for routine care and a small dental issue can easily become a major problem if not treated in a timely manner.
Share your anxiety
Dr. Hanneman and Dr. Dustrude both believe that relaxation techniques in the office are important for patient care. If you're tense or anxious, don't hesitate to tell the dentist and the dental staff. By getting your concerns out in the open, your dentist will be able to adapt the treatment to your needs.
Relaxation techniques
Dr. Hanneman and Dr. Dustrude utilize many relaxation techniques including use of nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas), The Wand® anesthetic delivery system, oral sedation prior to dental visits, warm blankets and using headphones to watch televisions mounted on the ceiling. The younger patients truly enjoy watching cartoons while many adult patients take advantage of the TV's on the ceilings as well to help take their mind off of the actual procedures being performed.
"I wanted to let you know how much we appreciate your service. I have always been nervous when seeing a dentist, dating back to my many visits to my family's ANCIENT dentist as a child. To this date, the sound of a drill makes me want to run in the opposite direction! On this past Wednesday, I had a checkup and cleaning and for the first time I walked away from a dental office thinking, ‘Gee that was fun!’ Thank you all, especially Sandy, maybe I'm finally over my dental phobia I've had."

"Dr. Hanneman and Ladies,
Words can't express my sincere appreciation for everything
you have done for both my husband and myself. Had it not been for your kind words
and support, I'd still be scared! I'm so happy with my new smile!"
